Bowl „Crystal” · hand-formed stoneware · one of a kind
Blue crystals, large and small, bloom across the interior like frozen snowflakes — outside, a dense, shadow-rich relief with no glaze.
The interior is covered in crystalline glaze where a network of large and small blue crystals has grown during firing — a process that can never be exactly predicted or repeated. The exterior is deliberately left unglazed: a complex, dense relief has been carved into it that is sufficient on its own — giving deep shadows and a rich pattern only lightly tinted by the natural brown of the clay. Hand-formed, one of a kind.
Maker’s note
Crystalline glaze is one of the most unpredictable processes I’ve worked with — the crystals grow their own way as the kiln cools, and the result can never be exactly foreseen. I wanted the outer surface to stay bare and unglazed, so the relief could speak entirely through its own light and shadow, without any added effect.
