The relief isn’t added on — it grows straight from the wall of the bowl, like a shell or a skeleton from another age.
The outer surface is formed by pinching the clay with the fingers — a technique that creates a wild, organic relief recalling a seashell, an armoured carapace, or a fossilised skeleton. The interior, by contrast, is hand-carved — fine parallel lines that create a calm counterpoint to the wildness of the exterior. Multiple glaze layers have blended, run in places, and formed new, unexpected tones. Hand-formed, one of a kind.
Maker’s note
I was born and raised by the sea, and that connection has never left me. Fossil continues my marine theme in ceramics — a form that recalls something shaped underwater over millennia. The pinching technique lets the clay express itself more freely than any cutting tool ever could.
