A bowl that is at once a flower and a landscape — a sculpture that changes a room.
Made from a single slab of clay using a technique where the edges are heavily wetted with water, making the clay exceptionally pliable — the surface stretched, pulled, and opened without cracking. The result is edges that are moving, ruffled, and alive, as if the form is in the act of opening. The bowl is covered in a layering of seven glazes: deep blue at the centre, hazy pinks and whites in transition, warm orange luminosity at the rim — the impression of a sunset over the ocean. At once floral and landscape, suspended between two images.
Important note for made-to-order
The original shown in the photographs has been sold. Every new piece is made by hand from the same clay and the same glazes — but the path of the ruffled edges, the flow of the glaze, and the distribution of tones is unique to each firing and can never be exactly repeated. You will not receive the same object — you will receive your own version of it: the same story, held for the first time in your hands.
Maker’s note
I wanted to create something on a threshold — a form that is at once a flower and a landscape. When the piece came out of the kiln, it reminded me of two things at once: a flower bud just opening, and a horizon where light is sinking into water. It is that suspension between two images that makes this object special to me. This is ceramics that does not only fulfil a function — it creates mood, presence, and its own quiet story inside a room.
