Flower Vase „Strokes” · hand-formed stoneware · one of a kind
A vase whose surface is built from painted strokes — an oil-painting technique carried over into clay.
The surface is built up with a painting knife, the same way I once applied acrylic and oil paint to canvas — this technique produces an extraordinary, unrepeatable relief on which the glaze splits into layers and a multitude of tones: brown, purple, blue, and green flow into one another like evening clouds. The neck has a removable perforated lid with nine openings — it holds long, straight stems apart and upright, or remove it to place a whole bouquet directly in the vase. Hand-formed, one of a kind — the technique can never be exactly repeated.
Maker’s note
Before ceramics, I painted, and the painting knife was my favourite tool for applying colour to canvas. When I began making ceramics, I wanted to carry that feeling into clay — and so this vase was born. The result is something I can’t fully repeat myself: the glaze responds to the knife strokes in its own way, splitting into tones that can’t be planned in advance.
