A dish on three legs in the shape of an open flower bud — radically simple, endlessly interesting.
The piece is made using the sgraffito technique — hand-carved radial lines cut through the dark surface layer to reveal the white clay beneath, creating both a contrasting pattern and a textured relief at once. The lines radiate from the centre outward like petals just opening — a clear, rhythmic composition worth looking at up close. The irregular edge brings the form to life. Three legs lift the dish slightly above the surface — adding lightness and making it easy to pick up and move. The black-and-white colour language works with any colour palette. Hand-formed, one of a kind.
Maker’s note
Organic, flowing forms are especially close to me in my work. I often make references to nature and draw inspiration from the objects around me — particularly flowers. The variety of bud forms gives endless possibilities to explore, and the plasticity of clay makes it the ideal material to adapt them.
